A Blogging Anniversary

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us. Helen Keller

I’ve been blogging for three years now. The first post (July 31, 2006) was one day after my 54th birthday. Here’s what I said back then.

And here’s where I am now. I have a real job working for a nonprofit organization helping needy elders, children and families. I still wonder how much time I have left. It’s been over five years since the Big C visited me.

I still ramble way too much. I can have the attention span of a gnat. My head is teeming with untested ideas. I don’t write here as often and regret the loss of time to cyber-visit with readers. To recap, since 2006, I have moved from Alabama to Springfield, Missouri, and from Springfield to Batavia, Illinois. My marriage of nearly 37 years ended last summer. Lots of other things happened of course, but I’m saving those stories for the book.

So, the past year has been a year of transition, self-discovery, self-sufficiency, and soul searching. While I see the glass half full, I wouldn’t mind if it were completely full. As I flit from one great notion to the next, I do feel progress is being made, ever so slowly.

The best is yet to come!

"The best is yet to come!"...Ahh, Sheila, I'm so glad you have reached this point. You are so right. Each day forward will now be filled with anticipation, especially if one of those flitting ideas take root.

Many times, when I've gone through a crisis, my mind can't settle, can't be quiet. It might take awhile for focus to return.

And I really can't wait to read your book!

Congrats on your blogiversary and I know there's more to come.

I am so glad you posted that by Helen Keller--I lost my job last week as well as dropped youngest off to live on his own in Gainesville.
I've been looking too long at the closed door---must kick myself to see what is beyond the newly opened one.
You are a wonder and I wish you nothing but blessings.

Thanks Marion and Sarge.

So sorry about the job, Floridagirl. Transitions are hard especially when we don't choose them.

Thanks UmmFarouq. I love reading yours too when time allows. Not much of that lately. Hope your summer is good--what is summer like there? Do you miss the South?

Actually, I just spent 5 weeks in Birmingham, even made it down to Opelika and Clanton, soaking in all the humidity. I do miss it, but not enough to want to live there again. These cool August breezes of Amman are what I need.

Ahh! I'm so sorry to hear this news. I will have to "buy the book" so I can learn any lessons you have to teach about keeping a marriage going. We're at year 19 of marriage, but have been together for 28. I wish you all the fun and excitement you can handle for the future. And you have us, all your cyber-friends, to count on during tough times.
