Pandora Rocks

I’ve been listening to Chet Baker Radio today as I re-immerse myself in a long-tabled project. I have son Scott to thank for turning me on to Pandora. I’ve added a link so that you can check it out, but I am enjoying my Chet Baker and company as I work nearby.

The way Pandora works is that you pick an artist and they pick music they think you’ll like. You can thumbs up or down it and create your own little “radio” station. Fitting, in that Scott is taking a radio production class this semester away from Hendrix College at our excellent community college, Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove.

And a rambling afterthought. One of my favorite bloggers, Marsha, is soliciting view on whether her high school daughter should go away to college next year or stay at home and attend a community college. Of course, I chipped in my opinion, which I must confess is also rambling. Do y’all see a trend here? My conclusion was to weigh the pros and cons but of course this blogger is well ahead on that front.

Me, I never wanted to go to college anywhere but the University of Alabama. So, I never struggled with that decision. However, decades later when I wanted to learn design skills, I found the Advertising, Design & Illustration program at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn was excellent and my instructors were talented as well as great teachers.

Where was I? I am supposed to be working on a “long-tabled project” and not blogging. I told you I was rambling. Add distracted to that too

I am supposed to be doing my job, but am instead reading blogs and listening to Pandora. I love it. Did you know you can create a bunch of stations and then choose the quickmix station and it takes turns playing songs from various stations you have created. That way you get a little variety in your styles.

I appreciate all your advice. My daughter's eyes glaze over whenever I bring up the subject. Poor kid. I just want to shake her. I am sure she just wants to shake me. Kids.

Hi Shelia, I hope you do not think I am not sympathetic for your situation. Health care is not the only thing I see coming, the woman on the tape is in full expectation of me filling her gar tank and paying her mortgage. He has 90% of the black vote, because they expect a welfare state that will work. The problem is that LBJ was wrong with his war on poverty, welfare is a disincentive to work.
Flaggazer left a comment under yours in reference to health care. I do have medicare but miss bee is only 62, she was able to retire when I did because of health care I earned with my years of service. Like medicare, social security, and tricare are things I paid for, maybe those working are in fact paying the bill but that is only because our government spent the money I gave them on programs like welfare. I do not have an answer to your situation.

I am not sure I agree but McCain is offering a $5000 refundable tax credit for purchasing insurance

Marsha,
I will have to try that. I always like to discover new things and depend on my sons to steer me toward the new and cool.

Sarge,
I think many people are happy with the welfare reforms that were undertaken. But it is a matter of philosophy or policy differences or something that determines how much we think government should do and for and to whom. Obliviously we disagree but that doesn't mean that we can't compromise. That is how things get done.

I happen to think that some people should not be left falling through the cracks on an important matter like health. Access to adequate health care is crucial to all other matters.

I'm also distracted today Sheila. I'm supposed to be working on some work stuff and I keep getting drawn over to my blog roll to "just check one more".

::sigh::

I have Pandora on my computer at work--sometimes it's the only thing that gets me through the day!
BTW- a creamed corn sandwich is sort of a joke - my husband always says "when I get old and am eating creamed corn sandwiches...." never actually had one.

PSS,
I understand. Weekends are catch up time. I love the connections but time is so limited. I continue to love what you do with your blog and look forward to see your latest celeb photo. Kudos.

floridagirl,
Thanks for the creamed corn sandwich explanation. It's a good 'en.

Update on the long tabled project: I found a glitch with my sewing machine and went out to Walmart and purchased a new one. After two gins and tonic (it is almost summer weather here in northern Illinois), I think I'd better wait until tomorrow after work to figure out the 50 stitch model. I sure hope the machine is as good as the reviews because I have my long-tabled project and time is growing short.

Right now, I will be content listening to Mr. O on MSNBC's continuing political coverage. What the devil am I going to watch on Wednesday if God forbid things turn out differently.

Sounds like the sewing machine I was given...very technical! Last time I used a sewing machine I was in my twenties...

I put the sewing machine on the table, however, and am staring at it, trying to get used to this advanced machine I have. It will take time, lol!

Sadly Pandora states it is not yet International. Very nice notice stating it can see I am in South Africa and will let me know when they launch here.

Jackie,
I hope they do go International but they had to lay off some workers. Even with a good idea and product, the economy stinks.

Marion,
Good luck with your project. The one I'm working on is that quilt and I am struggling to find time.

Pandora sounds good. Thanks for the link Sheila. I'll go over and have a look.

P.S. I enjoy listening to Chet Baker too!
