Home Invaders

Box elder bugs have invaded my home. You can see from the photo of my house that there’re a lot of the critters. While most expert advice I have read indicates that they are harmless (although one did say they can occasionally bite), they are indeed “pests.” At first I was content to merely brush them away when they crawled on me. But they are persistent, insistent on returning. I wasn’t very successful in trying to smash the offenders and thankfully so. Another expert said they can stink much as a stink bug does.

So far the best approach seems to involve the vacuum cleaner and the toilet. Could be worse. At least I am not battling bedbugs!

I've never heard of these...they must not like Cariboo weather, heh!

It sounds like laundry soap spray will work, according to the article. But I would just do as you are...vacuuming and placing them in the toilet sounds ideal, if anything is in this case!

I'm glad they're not bedbugs too, for your sake...there's a real outbreak everywhere with those.

So glad you're writing again!!!

I'm here from Canuck Marion's! Hi, there, Marion.

I'm in Oregon, but spent 36 years in southwest Mississippi, so I was attracted to your blog due to your location.

Yeah, I know what you mean about pests. If there are a lot of the critters (no matter what they are), and they poop, then they're pests. Did you know, by the way, that box elder trees are a kind of maple? They even grow here in western Oregon where they're planted, usually in a variegated variety.
