Decisions

They are a jumbled mess. One entwines itself with reckless abandonment around the others. It's as if they are alive like a bundle of garter snakes behind the woodpile.

At first as I opened the box of orphan cords and cables, I thought I'd put it aside and deal with it later. Like so much in my life I've fallen into this modus operandi.

And yet this time, I tackled the problem and unraveled telephone wires, computer cables and cords to God only knows what. It took time and patience, and after I had completed the task, I ended up throwing nearly all away.

Life is like this sometimes. What we hang onto long after its usefulness is exhausted--how strange!

This photo is exactly like a nest of garter snakes! It took me aback for a moment.

You have no idea how much stuff I collected in my 25 years at my last home...so many things I no longer had a use or desire for.

That included outmoded behavior, as well, lol!

I'm still fighting the "what if" syndrome, but every little thing I let go of is a step in the right direction.

UG, every day I say "We need a dumpster" We accumulate so much crap. There was a good quote in fantastic history book I read, Guns Germs and Steel. A New Guinea native, just out of the bush, asked the American author, and this was the motivation for the book
"How come you Westerners have some much 'Cargo" . Cargo being their word for "stuff"... Says it all if you ask me.

I love that question about cargo. Why do we insist on having much more than we need or use on a regular basis? We are so spoiled and wasteful.

I think you should find a nice piece of wood, mount the bivouac of cables on there and call it sculpture.

That's a creative solution for sure.

You could name the sculpture Spaghetti junction Sheila! It's amazing how much junk we seem to accumulate over the years. No wonder all the landfill sites are filling up so fast in England!

Love that name. Yes, spaghetti is a great way to describe the mess.

I can so relate to that Sheila! My husband is a computer engineer and hangs on to everything! We were getting overrun with cables wires and gadgets until recently I sat him down to start going through it all. When we finished we 2 grocery bags full of stuff to recycle or give away. What a relief! It was so easy to organize what was left over.

p.s Thanks for visiting my blog! I think a good name for your blog now that you've moved would be something like Sheila's Kitchen Sink... Unless you are looking for something Kompletely new : )

Ariane, your blog is so fantastic and I don't usually go that far out on a limb without cause. I applaud your work and see great benefit in what you are trying to accomplish. The information there is wonderfully helpful to folks like me struggling with the decluttering chore. At times it is an uphill battle.
